Welcome to the Franklin Inn. The original Franklin Inn was created in the 1930's, and has been known by many different names over the years. For some time this space was called the Corner Cafe, but no more. We were proud to restore and renew this historic building, benefitting the historic neighborhood it's nestled within. Many neighbors, and friends of the neighborhood are owed a great deal of thanks for helping this dream become a reality. It is our sincerest hope that you enjoy our hospitality, so please let us know what we can do to better serve you.
In 1930, The Franklin Inn was opened as a neighborhood restaurant featuring sandwiches and light meals with a full service bar. The original owners lived upstairs and the restaurant has remained open since that time, changing names several times since the 1970's.
In August 2010, it was decided to resurrect The Franklin Inn back to its original status. Construction begun under the strict guidelines of the Federal and Virginia Historic Commission, and an enthusiastic team was created to operate this new Franklin Inn and restore its timely charm.
Finally, on February 12, 2011, The Franklin Inn was reopened to anxiously awaiting neighbors and friends. The Team has worked hard to make sure the needs and requests of the Museum District Association have been satisfied and continues to cater to the special desires of the neighborhood and homeowners of this area. This dedication of full attention to the area has borne success for The Franklin Inn and we look forward to many years of continued service.
Nestled on the corner of W. Franklin Ave, named after Ben Franklin, and N. Cleveland St, named after Grover Cleveland, we thought it perfect to pay tribute to rich Virginia history. You will find tributes to Ben throughout the menu, along with comfort foods from the days of the original Franklin Inn.
We invite you to come in and enjoy our home cooked soups, salads, sandwiches, entrees and daily specials. We are open 7 days a week with full lunch and dinner service, and brunch on Sundays. We appreciate any comments, suggestions and interest in the restaurant, so please let us know your thoughts.
